Born in Zaragoza, Spain, David A. Powers now resides in Chicago and has been playing piano professionally since the age of 15. He has worked as a pianist for companies including Seabourne Cruise Lines, the Hyde Park School of Ballet, and the Columbia College School of Dance. As an improvisor and composer, his influences range from classical composers such as Mozart and Mahler to the great jazz pianists Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, Cecil Taylor and McCoy Tyner. His music is diverse, and spans the entire spectrum of genres, from traditional to pop to avant garde.
